Our Services

Altadena Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals to individuals—often seniors—who may have difficulty preparing food, especially after surgery or an extended hospital stay. In Altadena, at least 20% of the population are senior citizens, many of whom choose to age in place. A large number do not qualify for the LA County frozen-meal program or face long waiting lists. AMOW fills this critical gap by offering immediate meal delivery, whether short-term or long-term.

Hot meals are delivered weekly, Monday through Friday, to any resident unable to prepare or shop for nutritious food, regardless of the reason. Our purpose is to provide nourishing meals at a minimal cost to individuals who cannot cook, drive, shop, or leave their homes for extended periods.

By combining reliable home delivery, nutritional support, flexibility, and community involvement, Altadena Meals on Wheels offers a comprehensive solution that supports independence, recovery, and overall well-being for residents facing health challenges.

  • At this time, meals are provided free of charge to Altadena residents, thanks to the generosity of donors and community partners.

Altadena Meals on Wheels does not receive federal or state funding and relies entirely on the support of individuals, organizations, and local businesses to sustain our program. While we are proud to offer meals at no cost today, this is dependent on continued fundraising and community support. Our goal is to ensure that no one is turned away due to financial hardship, and we remain committed to serving our neighbors with dignity, compassion and care.

  • Meals are delivered five days a week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 10:45am and 12:30pm.

  • On most days, recipients receive a nutritious hot meal consisting of a protein and two sides, that's designed to provide balanced and satisfying nourishment.  Meals are accompanied by a variety of additional items, which may include soup, salad with dressing, a dinner roll, fruit or desert.  Each meal will also include an 8 oz. box of milk or fruit juice.  AMOW's goal is to provide meals that are not only nourishing but also enjoyable and thoughtfully prepared.

  • Meals are prepared by a licensed meal provider in accordance with established food safety and nutritional guidelines.  While many meals are designed to be balanced and moderate in sodium and sugar, specific dietary needs cannot be guaranteed.  At this time, AMOW is unable to customize meals or accommodate individual dietary restrictions or substitutions.  Meals are delivered to AMOW pre-packaged and are then assembled by volunteers for distribution.

We understand the importance of dietary needs and encourage prospective clients and their families to consider whether our program is the right fit for their individual health requirements.
